OUR RECOMMENDATIONS

A Few Places We Love

If you'll be spending extra time in Italy around our wedding, we highly recommend exploring a bit of Piemonte and the surrounding regions.

We've put together some of our favorite places, from beautiful hilltop villages and wine country to seaside towns, lakes and cities.

Langhe & Monferrato

These are the two wine regions right around us, and definitely worth exploring while you're here.

Alba: a lovely town for wandering, eating and drinking.

Barolo & La Morra: beautiful villages surrounded by vineyards, with lots of great cantine to visit.

Asti: a little closer to the wedding and a nice introduction to Monferrato.

Acqui Terme: a charming spa town, perfect for a slower day.

Big Bench Community Project: a fun, low-key treasure hunt through the region: oversized benches tucked around the Langhe hills, each with a gorgeous view over the vineyards.

A few of our favorite spots for wine tasting:

Franco Roero, Mongardino: a small, family-run winery, and tastings are in English.

La Canova, Calosso: another family winery we've visited. l

Sorì Diano, a cooperative cellar where several local winemakers sell their Dolcetto: great tastings, also in English.

Bosca: spectacular historic wine cellars, worth a visit if you book ahead.

Montalbera: another great local winery worth a visit, also in English.

Liguria

If you have time to head to the coast, we love Camogli, San Fruttuoso, Santa Margherita Ligure and Noli. Le Cinque Terre are also beautiful, especially if you have a few days to explore the area properly.

Lakes

If you're after some dreamy scenery, the lakes are hard to beat. We'd choose Lake Como or Lake Maggiore. Lake Garda is another beautiful option if you're travelling around Italy for longer.

Trekking

If you like to hike, the Alps are only about 1.5 hours away, close enough for a proper day in the mountains. Limone Piemonte is a great base, with lovely alpine scenery and good hiking if you're there in warmer months.

A few trails we love:

Sentiero del Lupo, Montelupo Albese: an easy loop through vineyards and hazelnut groves, great for all levels.

Monforte d'Alba – Serralunga d'Alba loop, past the Cappella di Santo Stefano and Castiglione Falletto: a scenic walk through Barolo wine country.

San Giacomo di Entraque – Rifugio Soria Ellena: a mountain hike up to a refuge in the Valle Gesso, in the Alpi Marittime.

Sant'Anna di Preia – Baita Pigna: a scenic mountain trail up to a rustic baita.

Parco Naturale Marguareis: a proper alpine park for longer hikes, with dramatic peaks and deep valleys.

Torino & Milano

Torino is close by and one of our favorite cities for a day or two. We particularly recommend the Museo Nazionale del Cinema and Museo Nazionale dell'Automobile, and the city has no shortage of excellent restaurants and food to enjoy along the way.

Milano is a little further away and worth adding if you want to enjoy some city time, good restaurants and shopping.
